  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup yellow cornmeal
  • 1 tbs sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 1/2 cup buttermilk shake before measuring
  • 2 large eggs


  • Preheat the oven to 400F and position a rack in the middle. Grease the pan with butter and heat up the pan by using oven.
  • Whisk the flour, cornmeal, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt together.
  • Add the buttermilk and eggs. Mix them, then add melted butter and mix again.
  • Remove the pan from the oven. Pour the batter into the hot skillet.
  • Bake until the cornbread begins to brown on top about 20-23 minutes. Cool it in 10 minutes before serving.


Mix a spoonful of clover honey or grated orange peel into softened butter to slather on the warm bread.
